Peace at the Holidays

My aunt calls me the Peacemaker.  She may be on to something.  Generally, I am the one trying to resolve conflicts.  And what better time - the Holidays - to see the potential for conflicts and my desire to create Peace!

This is not your typical "top 10 list" of suggestions for a better holiday - no plan ahead, simplify, exercise or decorate with organic ornaments.  I simply have three suggestions for you to give a try.

First - Think of your own Peace.  So what if you haven't achieved all your personal goals, there are incomplete projects in your closet, and the people you care most about haven't made all the changes that you suggested.  Relax - you are just like the rest of us mere humans.  Don't be frustrated or let it get you down.  All you need to do is change your thinking.  Be grateful for what you have accomplished.  Accept those you care about as they are. Find the patience through your faith that one day you will reach your goals, complete those projects and celebrate the successes with your loved ones.

Second - Minimize your AAS.  This is not a typo.  I am referring to Anger, Anxiety and Stress.  You need to LET GO of the triggers that increase your AAS.  It won't be easy since these triggers are linked to strong emotions, such as a need to be right, in control or needed.  Do you see any of these in yourself?  It's OK - we all have them to some degree.  I am not suggesting that you give them all up forever...just a few days.  When you feel the emotion coming on, recognize what's causing it, and simply...let...go.  You may have to give some people a "clean slate" for a few days.  This will require "pretending."

Third - Do what you LOVE.  No funny acronym here!  I simply want you to do what you love.  Find the time to invest in yourself.  What is enjoyable to you during the holidays?  What activity do you find meaningful?  Do it, get it, eat it and go for it!  Feel the energy created when you pursue the things that make you smile.  This energy source is critical to sustain you when you are minimizing your AAS and thinking of your own Peace!

That's it.  I hope you find it easy to follow through - I know I will be trying.  If you need added incentive:  The more AAS you let go of, the more things you get to do for yourself!

Peace!
